SunCat 120 : First full electric passenger vessel for Berlin– powered by state of the art battery technology from aentron – Made in Germany
SolarCircleLine – a joint venture established in 2016 between SolarWaterWorld AG and the Stern- und Kreis shipping line – is the first shipping company in Germany to rely exclusively on solar-electric passenger ships. Among other things, this supports the goal of the Berlin Senate to reduce the CO2 emissions of Berlin’s shipping companies by 30% and diesel emissions by 90% by 2030.
Two identical catamarans, which are almost silent on the Spree and the Berlin waters at a maximum speed of 18km / h, offer space for up to 180 passengers with a length of 36.5 meters. Built in the Kiebitzberg shipyard in Havelburg and equipped with a Kräutler KPR 75 rudder propeller with 2×45 kW for the drive, aentron HV storage systems based on 10 kWh modules, controlled by aentron’s own energy controller, were installed. This creates a separate redundant solution for on-board and drive energy storage. Since the energy storage devices are designed for long-term use in the ship, they have a particularly long service life.
This is guaranteed by the optimized battery architecture and construction. The battery is charged by solar and shore power. A whole day of operation without charging is possible without any problems.
As one of the few manufacturers to offer energy storage systems with DNVGL certification – aentron fulfils a basic requirement for use in commercial shipping.
aentron energy storage systems are specially designed for the high demands in terms of safety, quality, robustness and performance.
In addition, there are decisive factors such as the high load capacity of the modules due to a robust metal housing, the modular and scalable structure and the 360-degree integration.
